Peter brings to one source as much information about the history as possible. He obviously did much research in not only tracking down the possible existence of TJBeale, but also in the plausability of such a treasure even existing. I highly recommend the book to any newcomer to the treasure story as it will save countless hours (if not months) of research.

This book is an indepth, and intriguing analysis of the role played by African-American Communists, particularly Benjamin J. Davis, in the struggle for Black Liberation. The book is very-well researched and consistently objective, avoiding the standard anti-Communist, anti-Soviet biases we normally encounter.

Dr. Horne presents a liitle known history, the positive role played by the Communist Party, USA (CPUSA), in the struggle for African-American civil rights. He details and corroborates numerous examples of positive Communist involvement and activity in the Black community in the 1930s and 1940s without using the worn out "red scare" or "Communist menace" shibboleths.

He describes a very clear picture of the role played by Benjamin J. Davis, an open Communist from Harlem and twice elected to the New York City Council. It is amazing to read Horne's description of the tremendous support Davis received from both Harlemites and famous Black celebrities.

Dr. Horne's theory that the Black American civil rights establishment was given the narrow choice of renouncing Communist support and Communists in order to win government support for civil rights, appears right on target and certainly supported by history.

A very interesting and informative book.

Roland S. Jefferson has written a high concept novel about the Las Vegas Scene in the 1980's.The protagonist of this exciting tome is an alienated loser named Bernie who assembles a team of high stakes gamblers to help him pull off a heist of the Vegas casinos by counterfeiting the gaming chips and exchanging them for cash. Written is a style that reminds one of the late, great Chester Himes or even more like James Jones. With meticulous attention to detail, Jefferson is especially skillful with character descriptions and their interplay with one another. His development of Bernie's cold, detached, indifference, especially in his relationship with Janine, the only female member of his criminal enterprise is especially brutal in it's depiction. If you want to know how it ends, you'll have to read it. But I guarantee you won't be disappointed...especially since Las Vegas has, in the years since this novel was written, converted itself into a family playground. A Card For The Players is like going back home again, to the Las Vegas we remember. Not the corrupt infant of the Bugsy Siegel days, but the Las Vegas of Ocean's Eleven or 5 Against The House. I can't wait to see the movie

I found this book to be a very informative guide to the history and ethnology of the Chippewa of Wisconsin and Michigan's Western Upper Penninsula over a period of 300 years. The extensive interviews shows Dr. Danzinger did his homework. I was pleased at his consistent noting of the survival mechanisms and postive attitudes of this select group who are a still growing part the largest tribe (Anishinabe or Ojibwe) of Indians in North America. The footnotes and bibliography offer the reader excellent resources for further study. I look forward to another volume. Megwetch.

This is a really fun book for anyone who loved game shows growing up or has come to love them on the Game Show Network. I bought it as a gift for my husband and he loved it! It gives lots of "behind the scenes" info and is an easy ready.

Great overview of the concepts of science, explained clearly with many useful and easy to understand examples. One you should have on your shelves for reference.

He is a genius and through this book we can get a closer look at what makes him tick. We gain insight through this work into the mind of a literary giant and we also realize that he is the Southern Gentleman that we all admire.

This little volume is truly a treasure. Anyone interested in the educational proposals and thoughts of Thomas Jefferson should pick this book. From the beginning Jefferson's career to the end of his life culminating in the creation of the University of Virginia this book show Jefferson's lifelong interest in emancipating the human mind from tyranny. A great book.

Gordon Lee's " Crusade Against Ignorance" is an excellent compelation of the educational theories and proposals of Thomas Jefferson. Starting with interesting and helpful commentary the book proceeds to catalog Jefferson's proposals. From his "General Diffusion of Knowledge" to the creation of the University of Virginia Jefferson kept his focus on publicly educating Virginians and Americans for liberty in a free society. Lee chronicles all of Jefferson's proposals and numerous acomplishments carefully documenting the grat man's theories by using his letters and public documents. A great book.
